DER’s VERSE:

A short musical platformer about color. It was made in two weeks for onegameamonth.com‘s November challenge (the theme was ‘change’). I had a blast making it (especially the sound), and I tried to keep the story somewhat subtle (though it was probably the most story I’ve put in a game since Croakbat).

You can play it on Kongregate here, or fullscreen here.

Kibloid:

A musical upgrade-oriented platformer where you  must outrun a giant planet-eater and avoid dangerous obstacles along the way. Don’t go down too far or you will get lost in space!

I had a blast making this, and it took a little less than a month to make if I recall correctly.

You can play it on Kongregate here, or fullscreen here.

DeathBox:

An arcade-y shooter where you must shoot and avoid enemies while dodging moving blocks. Your character can also “phase” temporarily and pass through enemies unharmed. Several levels and a special final level!

This was started near the end of Croakbat’s development as an attempt at making a smaller-scale game with a narrower scope. It took about 1-2 weeks to make and had some nasty bugs post-release that I frantically managed to fix. Overall it was a great learning experience and solidified the importance of player feedback (which is how I learned of the bug in the first place).

You can play it on Kongregate here, or fullscreen here.

Croakbat:

An exploration-based platformer where you control a lonely croakbat (that’s half bat, half amphibian) who is searching for one of its own kind. Several environments to explore, 100 note fragments to collect (every 10 gives a page to read)! Collect all of the notes to unlock the ending and find the missing croakbat!

This was my first full game, and as a result it’s pretty bloated (it took me so long to finish I managed to release DeathBox before it). It has over 80 levels, and while I was originally intending a Kid-Chameleon-like level design with many interconnected level paths, I had to whittle it down and simplify it as I progressed through the game’s development. I think the biggest issue as a result of the game’s size what my inability to post it on Kongregate, where I planned to upload most of my games (Kongregate has a file size limit, and regardless of that the game may load especially slow on some computers, discouraging potential players from even  starting the game). However I learned my lesson, and every game since has been a reasonable size. Someday I would like to either rework the game into a condensed version for Kongregate, or even redesign the game entirely (possibly for 3d).

You can play it on MochiMedia here, or fullscreen here.
